Joanna Rudnick’s latest film has won another film festival award – the audience award at the 2015 Sebastopol Documentary Film Festival. The award is the third straight award for the film, coming soon after the jury prizes for best documentary short at its last two festival showings: the Cleveland International Film Festival and the festival in Geneva, IL. “On Beauty” also won the audience award for best short film at its world premiere week at the Chicago International Film Festival.
Such positive response to the film motivates us to get the film to more people around the country and world. Too many people are still underrepresented or misrepresented in media or they fear for their lives because of cultural ignorance. We will continue to challenge how we see ourselves and others, and we could not continue this fight without the strong, supportive audience behind us.
The film will have an encore presentation as part of the festival’s “Best of the Fest” series, which runs from June 5 to Oct. 16. “On Beauty” kicks off the event with two screenings alongside the feature film audience award winner, “David & Me,” at 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. on June 5.
The next festival for “On Beauty” is the Newport Beach Film Festival in Southern California for a screening at 2:45 p.m. on April 30. The film will also have its first university screenings on April 22 at Long Island University and twice on May 5 at the University of Washington.
